Uttarayan Residential Center (URC)
The Uttarayan Residential Center was founded in the year 1998 by Dr Sunipa Sinha Roy and is located in Arambag, Hoogly, West Bengal. It is a modest campus on three and a half bighas of land. It has one wing having a three storied building of about 6000 sq ft, with a kitchen, a garden, and a large playground. Another wing for an additional 3000 sq ft. was added by the generous support of one of our donors GAIL (Gas Authority of India Limited)
The residential center is a long stay home and a lifelong shelter and support. The residents of URC are in the age group of 18+ years. Currently it has a capacity of 22 persons (male and female). The staff comprises of full-time care-givers and Special Educators. The team is dedicated to giving each resident individual attention 24×7 catering to their various special needs.
URC is a destination for these special needs individuals who now have a home and support group that will care for them in their adulthood and into old age, without shelter and protection of their parents or close family members.
At URC the residents have a very organized routine lifestyle, where activities in daily life (ADL) are now achieved effortlessly and voluntarily. The residents are kept busy all day with Yoga, basic academic learning, dance, music, vocational training and extra curricular activities.
The students are involved in a wide variety of vocational activities which require patience and higher skill levels.
At URC we have continuously tried to improve the quality of life for its residents, ensuring that these special people get as much happiness and peace out of life as those in the mainstream of the society.
